Our Story

The Word Bookstore was founded by Adrian King-Edwards and Lucille Friesen in 1975. They had spent the previous summer hawking paperbacks out of their VW van in Northern British Columbia. Upon returning to Montreal, Lucille taped a photo of George Bernard Shaw to the front window of their apartment on Milton Street and the couple turned their living room into an underground bookstore. - Continue reading
